what happened
no, you didn’t
you chose to assume
because that’s what you do well
assume
like you knew everybody’s life
their truth on your fingertips
and the irony
your own truth missed
because you were too busy prying
into others’ business
even when you said you were concerned
you weren’t
you were curious
your thirst had to be quenched
and once you learned the actual truth
what did you do
you turned the other way
because your objective had been met
all you needed was to know
just to know
so that you could gossip
it didn’t matter to you
it didn’t bother you
that she had been suffering
in the silence of her room
with no courage
to tell anyone
and then she told
